Outbound Automotive visited the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which is held not too far from us in West Sussex. This world famous motorsport event takes place over four days each summer, with tens of thousand’s of people attending including many from overseas.
It is fantastic to be able to get up close to so many amazing racing cars and motorcycles – both current and from yesteryear – many taken up the famous ‘Hill’ by the great and the good of motorsport. Over the year’s, legends such as Sir Lewis Hamilton, Damon Hill, Nigel Mansell, Mika Hakkinen, Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button, Sir Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi, Rene Arnoux, Jochen Mass, and nine times 24 hour of Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen, have all attended. The much missed late, great Sir Stirling Moss and John Surtees were also regular attendees. On two wheels, stars such as Randy Mamola, Kenny Roberts, Giacomo Agostini, Casey Stoner, Jorge Lorenzo, Mick Doohan and Valentino Rossi have thrilled the crowds.
There are so many stands to visit, with many businesses showcasing their automotive-related products. We came across James Stevens, a Formula One artist who was working ‘live’ on a beautiful painting of seven times F1 World Champion Sir Lewis Hamilton. His work is truly incredible. The amazing RAF Red Arrows also put on a spectacular display in the skies above Goodwood.
There is so much to see at the Festival, it is a truly remarkable event like no other. We can’t wait to return next summer! In the meantime, there is the ‘Revival’ held at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in September to look forward to, another incredible event.
